This is a shout out to HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, who is credited with changing agricultural practices throughout the UK from conventional to organic.
“In farming, as in gardening, I happen to believe that if you treat the land with love and respect (in particular, respect for the idea that it has an almost living soul, bound up in the mysterious, everlasting cycles of nature) then it will repay you in kind.”
— Charles, Prince of Wales
When I launched Organic Weave, everyone asked: “what’s an organic rug?”, and a few people even asked: “can I eat it?” (yes, but I wouldn’t recommend it).
A lot has changed in the decades since Prince Charles established his organic farm in 1986 – a time when organic farming was an alternative pursuit. Fast forward to 2018, and Amazon has purchased Whole Foods, and the organic food industry is expected to grow 14% annually until 2021. When people of influence get behind the organic movement, change happens. My heartfelt thanks to Price Charles for his commitment organic farming and leading the way for thousands of others across the planet.
Thankfully no one asks me if they can eat my rugs anymore, although I am still waiting for more people to care about chemical content in home furnishings, as well as food.
And, BTW, if you haven’t tried Prince Charles’ cookies: Duchy Originals, you haven’t lived. Take my advice and get some soon!
