and the winner is....

We are thrilled to announce the winner of our inaugural ‘Draw a Rug’ competition: New Jersey-based teenager Amber Carr.

Carr is in an accelerated art portfolio class at the independent college preparatory Dwight-Englewood School and submitted an original acrylic painting titled ‘Sweet Dreams.’ The rug will be available for purchase  as a limited-edition collaboration beginning in early 2021.

Profits from sales of the rug will benefit The Edible Schoolyard Project—a nonprofit dedicated to transforming the health of children by designing hands-on educational experiences in the garden, kitchen, and cafeteria that connect children to food, nature, and to each other—and Breakfast Club of Canada—a nonprofit that creates and funds school nutrition programs across Canada to help meet the needs of children facing food insecurity.

Carr will receive a 4’x6’ rug in her winning design, valued at approximately $899. Applications were judged by a panel of celebrity judges, outlined below, who donated their time for the worthy cause.

“We were overwhelmed by the creativity and talent in the pool of submissions for our inaugural contest,” said Organic Weave founder Linda Alexanian. “We eventually chose Amber’s stunning artwork because we could imagine its transformation into a rug of varying textures. Think shag for the clouds!”
